Health Office

As school nurses, we believe that a student's health is directly linked to his/her ability to learn. Students with unmet health needs have a difficult time engaging in the educational process.

Our mission is to support them through their health conditions via different tools including assessment, intervention and follow-up.

We are ensuring daily a pivotal role that bridges healthcare and education.

1. Administer medications provided by parents and with a physician's prescription.
2. Monitoring and minimizing the spread of contagious diseases.
3. First aid care for acute injuries (staff and students).
4. Monitoring and treating (as directed by a physician/parent) chronic medical conditions such as diabetes and asthma.
5. Providing emergency medical equipment for GWA and competent knowledge to assist in the event of a crisis on campus both on an individual or campus wide scale.
6. Ensuring student health and safety during field trips.
7. *Providing basic health screens for as many students as possible during the school year (including height, weight, BMI, blood pressure, vision, dental, hearing and scoliosis screens).

*due to the daily volume of staff and students we have not been able to implement yearly nurse office screens on all students yet.

1. Nutrition counseling and support to maintain a healthy weight.
2. Parent referrals and assistance navigating healthcare system, support for critical illness/diagnosis.
3. Collaboration with athletic director, kitchen manager, counselors, principals, head of school and head of operations to ensure safe practices for GWA students and staff.
4. Contacting parents regarding medical concerns, when a student is ill and needs to go home or to a clinique for prompt medical care.
5. Collaboration with student support services, teachers and administration to ensure student medical problems are managed in a way to promote academic success.
6. Providing preventive services

8. Overseeing interventions and referrals as a way to foster health and ensure educational success.

The nurse office is located on the main level of campus, overlooking the track and soccer field beside the MPR. The office is open daily, Monday through Friday from 08:00 to 16:30.

At GWA we highly value the health and safety of all our students! This manual serves to provide a singular place where all health-related policies are maintained. It is required that every enrolled student at GWA has up to date information in our records regarding immunizations, food/medical allergies and any significant medical history with a thorough physician assessment and TB screening.

Medical Health Forms for Current Students:

The submission of medical forms is mandatory during the admission process and in 1st, 4th, 7th, 10th grade.

The information provided in the medical forms by student’s physicians is a great way to accompany their conditions while they are being learners.
