GWA 8th Graders Visit Toulouse, France

At the end of March, the French department organized the seventh annual 8th grade trip to France. Thirty-four students spent five days visiting the Midi-Pyrénées region and its capital city, Toulouse.

Toulouse is nicknamed “The Pink City” because of the color of its terracotta brick buildings. The students explored the city’s historical sites including the famous Place du Capitole. Toulouse is also known as a center of modern and technological industry, particularly in the fields of aerospace and aeronautics. The students had the opportunity to visit the Cité de l'espace, a theme park focused on space exploration.

Eighth graders at GWA are currently studying the Middle Ages, and the students were able to see this history with their own eyes when they visited the fortified city of Carcassonne and the medieval Comtal castle.

The itinerary for their time in France also included recreational activities from ice skating to a ropes course in the forest.

The trip ended with a visit to the city of Revel where the students got to experience a Saturday market, full of local produce, and to see the distinctive bell tower in Revel’s central square.

GWA French teacher Ms. Anisa Benchekroun is the organizing force behind the 8th grade trip to France. She describes the experience in her own words below.
