Our Campus

Welcome to George Washington Academy

George Washington Academy invites you to our five-hectare, purpose-built facility located on the southern edge of Casablanca’s city limits heading toward Dar Bouazza. The Lower School building houses grades K-5, while the Upper School building houses grades 6-12, with Discovery programs in early learning spaces of multiple-use buildings. The campus, situated a little over one kilometer from the Atlantic Ocean below, features beautiful views of the ocean and stunning sunsets over the water.  Visitors to campus are required to make an appointment prior to arrival and obey safety protocols.  *Masks must be worn at all times on campus.

Largest Children's Library in Morocco

Photo of children reading in GWA Library

GWA proudly houses the largest children’s library in the Kingdom of Morocco.  Designed according to modern standards with innovative reading nooks and study spaces, the Library includes distinct areas created especially for elementary, middle, and high school students to meet their respective reading, study, and research needs.  The Library also features “The Blue Room,” a multi-use space with theater seating for presentations, class meetings, story time, and other uses.

Lower School Wing

Lower School and Upper School classrooms are divided into two separate wings, each 3 stories, with a large grassy courtyard between them.  Throughout the day, Lower School students have a full day of indoor and often, outdoor classroom learning.  Students are escorted through open-air corridors to their different 'special' classes that include art, music, languages, and physical education and play time. Despite being one of the largest international schools in Morocco, the campus is exceptionally quiet and uncrowded.

Upper School Wing

The Upper School Wing is a 4-story building that also features a large grassy area abutting the football pitch.  Since Casablanca is blessed with uniquely temperate weather most days of the year, our campus is designed to accommodate outdoor and indoor learning.  Students are able to use outdoor spaces for a number of purposes including science experiments, collaborative assignments, quite study, eating lunch, and hanging out with friends and faculty.

Multi-Purpose Room

Mural on MPR Exterior

The Multi-Purpose Room (MPR) includes a volleyball court, a stage, a sound booth and also acts as cafeteria seating and large-event space.  The MPR offers balcony seating with an ocean view and a constant ocean breeze.  Adorning the building is a mural depicting three scenes that capture the mission and vision of GWA:   Painted by Moroccan street artist, Mehdi Zemouri whose style takes inspiration from minimalist Moroccan landscapes, the mural takes the audience on a journey through the cactus-covered regions of Morocco and up into the Atlas Mountains where the image of a young person is scaling a mountain face and then to the coast where an Essaouira-style fishing boat is ready to launch.  GWA's vision is to prepare students for their own journey into the world with the mission "to serve Morocco and the global community with wisdom and compassion".

Performance Hall

The Multi-Purpose Room contains a sound booth and stage used for performances and events such as the annual winter concert, fall semester musical, guest speakers, and promotion ceremonies.

Room to Grow

GWA has a full-sized field, miniature football pitch, two playgrounds, and a lower school and upper school gym equipped with a climbing wall, regulation gymnastics equipment, and trampolines.

GWA student-athletes compete over three seasons each year in the Maroc-American Schools Athletic Conference (MASAC) in badminton, boys/girls basketball, boys/girls soccer, boys/girls track and field, boys/girls volleyball, and swimming.

Room to Run

GWA's regulation-sized track and field is the only one of its kind in a Casablanca school.  The track is used to host MASAC Track and Field competitions and for recreational purposes.  The field contains multiple basket ball courts, a sand pit for field events, and an adjacent playground.  This area of the school also includes an Upper School gym that includes weightlifting equipment and machines as well as yoga, fitness, and kickboxing equipment.

Makers Space: Creativity with Purpose

The MakerSpace provides learning space where students turn imagination into reality both in regular classes and After School Activities programs.  Combining high tech equipment, hand tools, and other resources, students channel their creativity through the Design Process in order to build what they dream.  The MakerSpace teaches creativity, problem-solving, and other skills important to 21st Century pedagogy.

Robotics Lab

GWA’s after school robotics program has trained students for success in national and international competitions.  Starting with early childhood students with Souris robots and basic block coding; continuing with elementary students programming Dash & Dot and WeDo robots; and older students building and programming Spike Prime and EV3 robots.  Robotics teaches creativity, problem-solving, social awareness, and teamwork, as well as the engineering and coding required to build and program robots that perform tasks and solve problems.
