Colin Webster, photo

Welcome to George Washington Academy.

My name is Colin Webster and I am the incoming Head of School. I just wanted to take a moment to introduce myself to the GWA community and those interested in George Washington Academy.

I am a parent. My wife, Ibi Venczel, who is a school counsellor and college admissions counsellor and I, have two children, Caelin who is entering Grade 11, and our daughter Carys who is entering Grade 5. Caelin was born in Prague and started his schooling in Czech. Carys was born in Aleppo and started her schooling in Thai in Bangkok. I am an educator. I started my career as an elementary teacher in the Czech Republic at the International School of Prague. I spent a few years as a middle school teacher at Dubai American Academy before taking some time to work on a doctorate in Pennsylvania. I then became Secondary Principal at the ICARDA International School of Aleppo in Syria. I followed this with a position at Ruamrudee International School in Bangkok, Thailand first as administrator in charge of the IBDP and AP and shortly after my start as Director of Curriculum for the entire school. Most recently I spent four years as Head of School at the Asmara International Community School in Eritrea. All great American International Schools.

I know parents want to know the history and qualifications of the Head of School to feel comfortable and confident in choosing GWA and especially so in times like these. A school though is made up of the entire teaching and learning faculty. We have a great leadership team in place in Primary and Secondary and a great teaching staff who will be joined with great new teachers this fall.

For myself, I believe in building relationships with families. I believe in a high quality learning environment. I believe in enriching children’s lives with active involvement in not just the academic but also in the athletic and artistic. I also believe that parents and teachers all want children and students who are generous and desire to make the world a better place.

Sincerely,

Colin Webster
Head of School
