Digital citizenship is about more than just knowing how to use technology—it’s about using it ethically, safely, and effectively. At GWA, we incorporate digital citizenship principles across various subjects and integrate them deeply into our advisory program, where students engage in reflective discussions and activities that emphasize responsible technology use and online behavior.

During advisory sessions, students explore key themes such as digital footprints, cyberbullying, and privacy. Through guided activities, role-playing scenarios, and open conversations, students are encouraged to think critically about the consequences of their online actions. For example:

  • Middle School Advisories focus on foundational concepts like managing screen time, recognizing reliable sources, and fostering respectful digital communication.
  • High School Advisories delve deeper into complex topics such as digital ethics, the impact of social media on mental health, and how to curate a positive digital identity for college and career opportunities.

These sessions create a safe space for students to share experiences, ask questions, and develop the skills needed to navigate their digital lives responsibly. Advisory lessons are aligned with international frameworks like Common Sense Education’s Digital Citizenship Curriculum to ensure best practices.

Mastering AI Literacy: Skills for a Tech-Driven World

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is reshaping industries, and our students need to be prepared. At GWA, we believe that we must teach students how to use AI tools responsibly and effectively. 

One key focus in AI education is teaching students how to craft effective prompts for AI tools. Understanding how to frame questions and provide context is crucial for generating meaningful results, whether in research, problem-solving, or creative projects. For instance, students in English classes can use AI to generate outlines and refine essays, while science students may use AI tools for data analysis and hypothesis testing.

Most importantly, through our Common Sense programming, we emphasize ethical AI usage, helping students explore questions such as:

  • How can AI support human creativity without replacing it?
  • What are the potential biases in AI models, and how can we recognize them?
  • How can we use AI responsibly in collaborative and academic settings?

These discussions prepare students to approach AI as informed, ethical users, ready to adapt to the evolving demands of the modern workforce.
