Students may choose visual art as a one semester elective during each of their three years in middle school. The emphasis in 6th grade is on vocabulary, elements and principles of design, and art history. Students will explore media in two and three dimensional work. In grades 7 and 8, students will expand their understanding of the elements and principals of design for creative self-expression and begin to analyze and critique artwork. This may occur through exploration of drawing, painting, clay, sculptural materials, fiber arts, or jewelry.
